The second ever Hottie Scottie Stud Showcase will be held at the afternoon STCNE Specialty Show to be held Friday, May 29,2026 at Crackerbarrel Fairgrounds, Wrentham Developmental Center, 54 Emerald St. Wrentham, MA 02093.These Specialty shows are dog shows for Scottish Terriers only, and the afternoon show begins after 1:15 p.m.
The Hottie Scottie Stud Showcase is a non-competitive event, but it is not just a parade of Champions. This is the routine: Following a brief introduction by the dog's owner, stud dogs will be gaited in the ring so movement and attitude may be assessed. Afterwards, stud dogs will be available for “hands on” evaluation of each dog by all attendees. Two participants at a time will have the opportunity to inspect all the other dogs, as a volunteer helper temporarily holds their dog on the table. After all participants and audience have had a chance to examine all the dogs presented, there will be a "round table" breeding workshop held in the STCNE hospitality tent. Some of the Specialty judges will be sharing their knowledge, along with other respected Scottish Terrier breeders. Information pertaining to the importance, health and maintenance of the intact male Scottish Terrier will be disseminated, and valuable books and articles on Scottish Terrier breeding will be suggested.Discussions and question and answer sessions are expected. Please note:This event shall not compare and contrast one kennel over another.
While it has a fun, lighthearted name, this event has a purpose and that is to address a very serious world-wide problem for Scottish Terriers as a breed. The breed needs more genetic diversity, and four things need to happen to have that result. One is, more breeders will utilize genetic tests that can help eliminate some of the health problems that affect the breed. Two is, more owners of studs, especially those who are champions, would need to keep the dogs intact so they can sire litters. Three is, more bitch owners would look beyond the current year's show ring for studs to breed to and not just flock to the most winning dog of the year. Four is, for more owners of Scottie girls to allow their girls to be bred, either by themselves or in concert with an experienced breeder.
The goals of the Hottie Scottie Stud Showcase, which is being generously supported by a $500 grant from The Scottish Terrier Club of America, are: 1) to showcase intact male Scottish Terriers, who are not exclusively current show dogs, so that breeders may evaluate them for their breeding program and 2) to educate companion Scottish Terrier owners on the importance of intact males to the gene pool. It goes without saying that while we are talking about the male dogs being necessary, we also must acknowledge the need for more Scottish Terrier owners to breed their girls themselves or to parter with an experienced and ethical breeder.
